Two or so years ago, there was a huge excess in Gang Violence in Vancouver, British Columbia, and surrounding areas.
It seems to be happening again.
An innocent woman (they said that they couldn't state whether her husband had gang ties or not, but that's practically saying 'yes') was killed in her vehicle, with her young son in the car. What the hell's wrong with people? Vancouver's worrying so much about fixing up the city for 2010, and they're not fixing up the Gang Violence.
It's pathetic.
That's why I live on Vancouver Island. I couldn't stand living in a big city like Vancouver!

That is terrible! I feel so sorry for the little boy. And for all the families who lost someone to gang violence.

It appears gang violence is happening all around the world. Where I'm at, it's a common site to see a gangbanger everywhere. Mostly because they're coming from New York, Michigan, California, and Mexico. Even a news reporter told our state governor we had the worse gang problem in the country! Innocent people die because they get hit by stray bullets, many women are raped, people are robbed, and teenagers are forced to joined because they get jumped after they get off the school bus by members waiting at the stops. Just don't be out after midnight and as long as you don't look at them, you're fine!

Whoa I didn't realise that there was another person from BC let alone Vancouver Island on this board. Thats a little freaky. I'm originally from Vancouver and I'm extremely glad I'm not living there now. It's pretty sad that the government and the police can't seem to keep the gangs under control. And I don't plan on going to Vancouver anytime soon if I can help it. I mean if you aren't safe in your own car thats definetly not a place I want to be.

I'm really sorry about that. I'd heard good things about Vancouver. But you're right. Even here in North Carolina, where gangbangers have tried to migrate from DC and Atlanta, we've seen the writing on the wall, so to speak. I think the last straw came, though, when one gang initiation involved cop killing. People around here don't take too kindly to that, and the cops cracked down on them full-force. That particular initiation has stopped.

Vancouver normally is a pretty nice place. But the this is the second time in a few years they've had major problems with gang violence. It's pretty obvious that this is all about the marijuana trade which is big in BC. I read somewhere it's a 6 billion dollar a year industry or something like that. I bet if they made stricter marijuana laws they wouldn't have HALF the gang problems they do now. But they won't do that because I'm sure most of the politicans and cops smoke pot too. I mean we have a Marijuana Party from crying out loud.

Guh, I'm just so disappointed with our choice of political leaders at the moment. There's not really any good ones. However, I think we need to see what the new Liberal Leader can do. We haven't heard much about him yet.

We have several gangs that make their presence known here. I would have to say we have 3 gangs that everyone knows where they usually are and know to stay out of the area. Kids are being recruited left and right. It's sad to say that I have known several people who thought it was just "cool" to be in a gang, so they decided to head down that path.

We had Hells Angels around here for a while. In a lot of towns right around me up to Quebec. I'm not sure if they're still around, this thing says they're not: www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1345296 but who knows. It's kinda scary, half of the cities in that article are less than 45 minutes away. I actually live in the Town of Fort Erie. I read their Wiki because I knew nothing about them, besides what my mom was saying, besides this was a really long time ago. Apparently they mostly fought with rivals, they didn't bother with regular people if they didn't have to. I don't know of any other major gangs, or even small ones around where I live. *Thinks that's a good thing.*

Yeah, they used to be quite frequent in a few towns over from me. It's bigger; my mom grew up there. She used to work the door at their parties! She wasn't affiliated with them or anything, but hey, it was a job.
