www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2233878.eceEr... I don't really know what to even say about this. But I will admit it kinda grosses me out. There's also a video of a short interview in there with the parents. I also read this, No offense to anyone from Britain, but whoa. Thoughts?

Yikes. I wonder if any of the folks who are so outraged about sex education starting in grade school are rethinking their position?
At least both of the mini-parents seem to want to take responsibility, even though they haven't a clue how. Better than breezily announcing it's someone else's problem, which has been known to happen.

And where are the parents to these two again? I don't feel sorry for these two. I mean, yeah, teenagers are going to go out and pull some stunts. I've pulled stunts, but NEVER like this one. Their parents should have been aware of something going on between these two. They could have set limits, curfews for when they had to be home, and if they broke it, you're grounded. Plus these two should know "the talk" by now. If she didn't have birth control, and they didn't have protection, he should have been responsible and said no, or she should have been responsible and just kept her legs closed. However, I am glad they're not passing the kid off onto society to take care of

That is scary...I had my first child a couple weeks before I turned 18 and that was too young...to have one at 13...I can't imagine.

Over here 15 really isn't that young... awful I know. The story wouldn't even have gotten into the papers if it hadn't have been a 13 year old boy. Also the story mainly broke cos he wasn't going to be prosecuted. Well I see that as fair enough considering the girl was older. What got me the most is why was a older looking 15 year old girl even interested in a VERY YOUNG looking 12 year old boy?! It's bizaare. I know someone who's girlfriend has just had a baby, they both only just turned 16. The age of consent is 16 over here so a 16 year old being pregnant isn't classed as much of a shocker to be honest. Though yes they do get given sex education over here at about 10 years old, and yes the sexual health clinic will quite happily give out bags full of free condoms. It's not like it's difficult to get protection. I don't know, I do think it's commendable that they want to take responsibility, they sound more mature in their decisions than some adults that I know. But in the same breath neither can provide. I can't bring myself to judge too harshly as I know someone who has a 7 year old and a 2 year old, she had her first when she had just turned 16. However her and her boyfriend have been together since they were 13, they celebrate being together 10 years this year. They both work to support themselves and always have. They don't collect extra benefits, only those that all parents get regardless of status. She's still young looking and people do stare when he 7 year old calls her 'mum' but she's used to it now and it doesn't faze her. But yeah, I do think the UK (and down by me) easily has the highest teenage pregnancy rate.

Dun dun dun. Now the media is saying that Alfie (the "father") is being scammed. Supposedly the girls mother told the girl to say Alfie was the father, since he's so young, and they'd be able to make money off of the media and TV interviews. Now Alfie is telling the media to screw off, he is the father, and he's going to get a DNA test. www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/70116/Alfie-being-used-to-get-cash-from-the-papers-/cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/index.php?rn=222561&cl=12112010&ch=But it's not confirmed for sure that it IS a scam. I guess we'll have to wait for this DNA test the kid is supposedly supposed to have. I don't think people are really amazed that it's the 15 year old girl that's pregnant just that it's that kid who (supposedly, now) is the father. Especially since he looks like he's about 7. I'm also wondering what the heck made her want to have sex with him.

Yikes! That is my reaction to that. It scares me that 12 and 13 year old children are having sex. I'm glad the two young parents want to raise their baby, but I don't think they quite have a clue. When my younger sister become a mom at 16, I spent a great deal of time helping her care for my nephew. It was not easy. At 20, I can't imagine being a parent quite yet. I definitely would not want to be 13 or 15 and being a parent.

I can't believe I'm bumping this, but I am. XD Courtesy of Perez Hilton: Turns out wee Brit Alfie Patten is not the father of baby Maisie with girlfriend Chantelle. A DNA test revealed that 13-year-old Alfie is not the baby's daddy. The boy took the test after several lads came forward claiming to have slept with 15-year-old Chantelle. Alfie's mom said, "It had not even crossed Alfie’s mind whether Chantelle had not been faithful to him. He’s absolutely devastated that these lads say they slept with her." Poor Alfie! Apparently, Chantelle's mom ordered her daughter to insist that she had been a virgin prior to sleeping with Alfie. But science has revealed the truth! Alfie's dad said, "He said it was the first time he’d had sex, he didn’t know what he was doing or the complications that could come. I’ll talk to him again and it’ll be the birds and bees talk." We think that by now, Alfie is well acquainted with the birds and the bees. What his dad needs to do is buy him a 24 pack of condoms. perezhilton.com/2009-03-26-13-year-old-dad-is-not-the-dad-after-allI can't really say I'm surprised.
