You're doing great mirium. But really, you're pretty much right.

I think I'll add that to my list of possible epitaphs -- "She was pretty much right." ;D Another recent addition to the list is "She started it!" :pillowfight:

Now it seems (at least to this old fogey) that everyone is being told they should aspire to trashing society -- promoting the idea that being rude is cooler than being polite, taking advantage of the weak is cooler than helping them, lying and cheating and stealing to get rich is cooler than being ethical and excellent at what you do. It's more admirable to rob someone than to earn the money, as long as you don't get caught. Which gives kids today a dilemma we didn't have -- being successful within the rules is no longer considered a success. But then, I'm an old fogey. It's my job to claim that the world is going to hell in a handbasket. How'm I doing? You're older than I am, Mirium. But I saw jokes about bombing our school all the time, and it was just that--a joke. I had friends who died in accidents and such, and no counselors were called in. We had a moment of silence (since prayer was banned in public school), and then went on with life, dealing with it in our own way. My hope and prayer for the kids coming up is that they say "NO MORE!!" to situational ethics and "Right and wrong are what you want them to be." Please bring back standards. There IS right and there IS wrong! Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

I agree with you, Liz. The whole threat thing was pretty cool-- last year. This year it was just stupid, and we're annoyed with it. I've never really had friends die and have counsellors come in, though in grade eight a grade niner was killed in a car accident, and grief counsellors were brought in for those who wanted to talk. It was nice, though. The teachers allowed those students who were friends with the guy who died to skip class, and take as much time as they needed to grieve.
But seriously. There aren't really standards these days. Our principal does nothing. We have ONE fire drill per year, ONE earthquake drill per year, and ONE code red drill per year. It's stupid. We used to have them once a month, back in Elementary school and such. My school is so slack, it's depressing. Our new principal comes on the intercom and threatens all this stuff, and never goes through with it. And the rest of us students have to put up with the idiots who keep misbehaving. It's stupid. I can't wait until I'm out of that asbestos filled, molding school. Seriously, it's 60+ years old. They're making plans for a new one, but hell, the 7 year old girl I babysit will probably be going to it! It's all ridiculous. While a new Wal-Mart, and Future Shop, and Home Depot, and London Drugs are being built, we students at my school are living in asbestos filled walls.
Well, there's my society rant for the day.

Wow. My school has at least three fire drills every semester, and the principal and vice principal aren't strict but they follow up on anything they say. We don't have earthquakes here, but they do tell us about what to do if there's a lockdown, even if they don't practice. And that gun threat last year was the only one since I've been going there.
It's my school 100th anniversary this year, but it's kept pretty much up to date. I thought it was bad but after hearing about some... wow.

Update: We had another bomb threat on Monday, but they didn't close the school for they monitored it over the weekend. HOWEVER, another one was found yesterday afternoon. So I have no school, again. How am I expected to graduate when we keep getting days off?

My hope is that they'll find whoever's doing this and bill them for the bomb squad, the police overtime, and the time lost for the teachers, the principal, the liability insurance, etc., etc., etc.
I don't know, but experience tells me it's some punk with nothing better to do. Maybe if this punk's parent(s) get billed for this, it won't be so funny anymore.
I know that's what they've begun doing in some European countries and are considering doing in North Carolina. If you get lost in the woods or deep in the mountains, they'll find you. And if it ends up you wandered off the marked trails, they'll bill you for services. That can run well into the thousands.

Yeah, they do that thing here too. They caught the person who wrote the one for Monday's. Her friends ratted her out for the $500 reward. The girl didn't even go to our school!

Glad to hear they caught her -- I wonder if she's enjoying her 15 minutes of fame?
