NASA is letting the public vote to decide what the addition to the International Space Station will be named -- and the polls close tomorrow, March 20, at 4:40 EST! So if you want your voice to be heard, go to and vote! (I picked "suggest a name" and suggested "Colbert," but don't let that influence you. )

"COLBERT" WON!!!!!!!! "Colbert" got 230,539 votes; the second place went to one of NASA's suggestions, "Serenity", with a paltry 190,000 or so, out of 1,190,437 total votes. NASA is being a party pooper, though; they reserve the right to ignore the poll results and choose a name that is "in the best interests of the agency." But "Colbert" is SO appropriate! 1) Like Module 3, Steven C. offers "a spectacular view of our home planet." 2) Module 3 will contain the "Oxygen Generation System (OGS), which takes the station’s water and splits it apart into hydrogen, which gets vented into space, and oxygen, which is returned into the cabin for the crew to breathe"; Steven C. splits hairs and vents about the result on almost every program, and frequently pauses to remind himself, "Breathe, Steven, Breathe." 3) Module 3 will contain the "Atmosphere Revitalization System (ARS), which controls the station’s carbon dioxide levels and maintains the temperature and atmospheric pressure at comfortable levels"; Steven C. is an expert in the area of hot air, and is reknowned for putting heat and pressure on public figures and for gassing almost constantly. 4) Module 3 will contain the "Water Recovery System (WRS) and Urine Processor Assembly (UPA), which take waste water from the station and purify it, separating any contaminants and making it safe for the crew to drink...[and the] Waste and hygiene compartment, which provides a place for the crew to use the bathroom in a way that allows the station to process the majority of the water used onboard so that it may be used again" -- need I say more?

That's hilarious mirium, and quite awesome too! It sucks that they don't have to listen to the poll results. xD

I don't mind them giving themselves that out -- after all, the winner could have been "Screw Obama!" or something. Fortunately, NASA is one of the few government agencies with a sense of humor; they're probably actually discussing it, instead of considering the decision a no-brainer.
