(missing Russian matchmaker)
I seem to be the only person who watches this show, but I love the way they have complicated people, and significant things happen without a lot of fanfare, and they show character development through little touches instead of things that the other characters notice and talk about....and this was a great episode for all of that.
I spent most of the episode trying to figure out whether the matchmaker woman was a Good Guy or a Bad Guy, and as usual, she was both. The Russian "enforcer" with a romantic streak (and no loyalty to his boss) was a great twist -- and he was just daring anyone to comment on it, which was a hoot!
Martin's certainly gotten smarter since he first joined the team -- a couple of years ago, he'd have just accepted his new girlfriend's story and not thought twice about it. It's going to be an interesting story arc -- wonder if this is going to be the end-of-season cliffhanger?
And it was a hoot watching Jack trying so hard to be his New Improved Self -- although I "aww"ed at the look on his face as he realized that Sam really wants Brian to be part of Finn's life, and therefore part of her life, she isn't just putting up with him and she's getting fonder of him all the time. The Old Jack would have barged in and told her to kick the guy to the curb, New Jack just looked suffering and walked away. Chuckled when the nurse told him "and don't bother the desk nurse" (for updates) -- Old Jack would have gotten annoyed and kept right on bothering, New Jack looked startled. And the last scene was pure Old Jack; ruh-oh, I hope he doesn't get arrested for assault-and-battery in the middle of a future case! Or maybe I do, it would be interesting to watch....
Man, Sam sure has a lot of freckles under all that makeup!
