I think you should make this thread for all movies. Even old ones that some of us probably haven't seen. So maybe recommend movies to go see OR rent. (Especially since some of us *ahem, me* NEVER go to the movies, or it's rare. And we won't be able to really participate.) Anyways, I've heard different opinions on Night at the Museum. Some say it sucked, some say it was good for little kids, some just liked it. I want to see it because I saw the first one and I liked that one. Plus I love Ben Stiller (and Owen Wilson who I always forget is in these movies). Anyways if I was going to recommend any movie right now I'd say Gladiator (I was going to say it's not that old, but it was released in 2000 and that's nearly 10 years now ). It has Russel Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix in it. We had to watch it in my Ancient History class for the Rome portion. It's actually really good. Starts off slightly boring but the second half is awesome. For girls it's quite hot, xD and for guys, tons of action.

Oh wow I have lots of movies(only one is in theatres) to recommend. Star Trek(New one)- Just plain awesome. You don't even need to have seen the older movies or the TV series' to get it. Plus Chris Pine(James Kirk) is h-o-t. And he's like shirtless and bloody in the movie. Although not at the same time Memoirs of a Geisha- This movie makes me cry. It's like amazing. Theres a book too which is even better. The Patriot- I watched this movie on History Channel one day and it's pretty good. It has Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger but they're both a lot younger in it. The beginning is a little meh and theres more deaths than necessary but it's good. The only complaint I have about the movie is that they kill off way too many characters. Dark Knight- I bet everyones already seen this one. But if you haven't go out and rent it NOW.

I second Adri on The Dark Knight. Even if you hate Batman or have no interest at all in Batman, freaking rent this movie. You'll completely change your mind. It's so awesome.

I changed it to include all movies, rent or go see Glory Road is a good movie to go rent. It's based on a true life story of a Texas college who was the worst basketball team in country one year and were the NCAA champions the following year.

I'll add a couple of oldies-but-goodies to rent, both classics -- Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz. You've probably heard lines quoted from both of them, they're cultural icons. And with good reason -- even though they were both made before I was born (yes, they are truly ancient ), IMO they're both superb and just as relevant as ever. If you can, watch them in a darkened room without distractions; you've got to be totally absorbed to really get the effect. And an oldie-but-weirdie: "There's No Business Like Show Business" from (I think) the 1950s. It might be a cult classic, but is really more of an oddity. It stars Ethyl Merman and Dan Dailey as vaudeville performers; Donald O'Connor, Mitzi Gaynor and Johnny Ray as their kids who have joined the "family business," and Marilyn Monroe as a love interest. (They're all very talented performers individually, but it's a truly bizarre combination.) If you're into psychology and sociology and such, it's absolutely fascinating. For example, Ethyl and Dan are horrified that Johnny wants to leave the act to become a priest; Marilyn loves Donald, but she's determined to be a Star (she behaves like a modern feminist, although they didn't have those at the time) and he can't understand anyone with ambitions; certainly he doesn't have any. There's a surreal dance scene that is usually the reason the movie gets mentioned. You'll probably have to catch it on late night TV, but if you find a DVD version, please let me know! I want my own copy!

Gasp! Who hasn't seen the Wizard of Oz? That movie is just plain awesome. But, the Return to Oz movie was complete crap! Horrible. They didn't even try to make it anything like the original. I was gonna ask if they would even be available for rent anymore. No offense. You'd probably have to buy a VHS version from Amazon or something. Animated (old version of "animated" aka cartoons, not these stupid 3D pop out ones) Disney movies are always awesome. Like sure you liked them when you were little, but I always find them way more hilarious now. xD I watched Brother Bear last night (and it's good) but I laughed a lot too. The Canadian moose were pretty awesome. xD And who doesn't love The Lion King? (Timon and Pumbaa!) Then again maybe I'm just immature. Ooh a serious recommendation if you're weird enough not to have seen it, The Sound of Music! It's pretty awesome, it's a musical, but that just makes it better. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is another really good musical too! ;D Another good musical is Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street... but it's a different kind of musical.

I've been dying to see Casablanca. It sounds really good. Oh and EVERYBODY needs to see the Notebook. I've heard that if you've read the book it's complete crap but I haven't yet and I thought the movie was pretty decent. The end makes me cry though.
Another movie everyone needs to see is Annie. I love Annie. I've seen the live musical and two of the movie versions. I'm totally blanking on which movie was the better one but they're both decent so it doesn't really matter which one you rent. It is the best thing ever. I love all the characters.
Little Mermaid. I love this movie. It was like the first movie I can remember watching and if you have not seen it you need to get your butt to a rental store and rent it. Pronto. Oh and I've never seen The Sound of Music. But I already knew I was weird. xD.

That's a true fact. It is complete crap compared with the book. I would just go to the library and take out the book for free rather than rent the movie. Oooh Annie is another awesome musical!

Never saw The Notebook and I don't plan on it. I hate those sappy love story movies.
I'm definitely a sports movie girl or comedy or action. Like Miracle, the movie about the US Hockey team winning the gold in the Olympics. Such an intense movie!
Oh and the Ace Ventura movies are classics. And I'll basically watch anything with Will Smith.
