Happy Thanksgiving in advance to all my fellow Americans (and a belated one to our resident Canadians)!
I'm going to my sister's for the celebration and she's a Very Organized Person; I have already been assigned a crucial Helping Task for the day. I'll be trying to keep the dog's nose out of the food, and this is such a monumental task, there will be two of us on the job. The assignment is well-suited to our culinary skill levels. I'll probably rely on literally keeping him on a short leash, because he's a mid-size dog (his head is thigh-height) but my nephew's technique is to grab the pooch, wrestle him onto his lap and wrap both arms around him. The puppy loves attention from my nephew but hates being hugged, and gets so conflicted he just sits there looking astonished and occasionally gives a little whine or tentative woof (depending on whether "hate hugs" or "love the guy" is dominant at that moment).
Are Canada and the U.S. the only countries that are Officially Thankful? Is stuffing one's face and watching violent sports contests the universal way to demonstrate this emotion?
And finally, a Thanksgiving-themed joke. What noise does a space turkey make?
(I have no idea why all the smilies are at the end of this post, or why most of them have migrated to the "Add Tags" section when you're writing a message. But I'll try to find out...)
(Hmm, they showed up in the preview but not in the actual post. Mysteriouser and mysteriouser....)
