I like to celebrate by remembering my youthful idealistic hopes (especially the ones about equality and freedom) and realizing how much progress has been made since them. It reminds me that improvement on that stuff might seem imperceptible, but it adds up over the years.
And this year we've got a special symbol of progress -- whether you agree with Obama's policies or not, the fact that he was elected shows that King's dream is getting a little closer to coming true. Even though we've got a long way to go.
Sorry to go all somber and pretentious on y'all like that -- it's hard to talk about important stuff without lapsing into Polonious mode. So for all the progress, and for Dr. King's putting The Dream into memorable words --
