ooo, I have two more ripening tomatoes -- they were green on Friday and look almost ready to eat today! This is exciting! (yes, I lead a very boring life. ) I don't think anyone is going to think a portabella is actually a hamburger, but they're as close as those vegetarian things that are supposed to taste like meat -- and portabellas are cheaper and don't have a bunch of chemicals in them. Have you tried one yet? You could try cooking your own Chinese food, I've heard that restaurants add a lot of extra fat and salt and other stuff to make it taste the same after sitting under heat lamps for an hour. Stirfry has a reputation for being fast, easy and healthy. As far as I can tell, you need to look at a few recipes to figure out how to make it taste Chinese (like putting in cornstarch to make the sauce gooey) and after that you can pretty much put in whatever's in your fridge. Here's one to get you started, it's for four people so cut down on the amounts: allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chicken-Stir-Fry/Detail.aspxI've been knitting a lace shawl and am getting close to finishing it. Sounds fancier than it is -- I'm using a big ball of that cotton string they sell in yarn stores for crocheting tablecloths, not silk or some other expensive hoity-toity material. And "lace" just means it's got a lot of little holes in it instead of being solid knitting. Holes put in on purpose, that is. I'm making it in cream color, not blues and greens, but here's a picture (and the pattern): mawelucky.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/gaileng.pdf I've been seeing the commercials about CSI changing days, too -- looks like Las Vegas on Thursday, NY on Friday and Miami on Sunday. Wonder why they're moving? Maybe they have trouble getting people to watch TV on weekends instead of going out to party, and figure CSI fans will tune in no matter what. Hope all is going well for you!

The two tomatoes ripened and were Yummy to the Max, and they apparently inspired another one that went from green to perfect red in about 48 hours. This quadruples my annual harvest. I've got seven tomato plants, two that I bought from the garden center and expected to do their jobs this summer and produce some edibles, and five that I started as seedlings and am basically keeping as pets -- they've grown very, very slowly. Well, one of the pets has had such a growth spurt that I would put it in a tomato cage if I had one. But I don't, so I put it on a patio chair with the branches mostly leaning against the chair back. It's grown so it has two branches sticking out on the chair arms, and has sprouted yellow flowers in a bunch at the top, so it looks like Queen Tomato sitting on her throne with a little yellow crown. One of my pet plants has a sense of humor! This somehow seems right.

hello i'm Still around! i have been real busy and real sore. i had to get my yard cleared up cause the county said the grass was too tall and were going to charge me to claean it up. humm can't understand cause the grass wasn't tall but the plumbago was. but that's a plant with blue flowers. oh well we mowed it down completely and it will grow back in a few weeks. we also cut and pulled up a bunch of vines. dottie across the street helped me. the i had wallace do the mowing and weed eating across the back fence. that was all that was too tall to me. then the guy that did my bathroom tile job last year came over and finished the last piece of tile. i think he felt guilty about not coming back for so long he joined in the clean up. sweeping and put all the trash in his trailer and towed it away. i was crying they were so sweet. i had to pay wallace of course but we really needed to get it done. i also told dottie i was taking her to lunch. it took us 5 hours. yeeeekkks so glad it's over. i plan to get wallace to come over more often and do some other stuff i want done. i also want to get a load of mulch and spread it all over my front yard where i don't want plants growing.
dottie and i went to a taco place she loves. it was actually cool last saturday so we sat outside. so nice.
i'm so proud of you and your tomatoes. i am planning to build a bed near the house by spring. i want to get out every week end to make sure i keep some work done so it won't get quite so far behind.
it was horrible sunday morning and most of the week. i was so sore, miserible.. but much better now.. well kiddo i gotta go and make myself a tomato sandwich. it's all your fault. LOL
csi miami is on now at 10 pm sunday night. reruns of course. at least it was last sunday while i was in pain and couldn't sleep.
the kitties are great since i got H to come home wednesday night. i decided since he got out and i couldn't find him for 3 hours, he could just stay out the rest of the night. so i went to bed and all of a sudden i heard a bunch of howling, etc. i went to the front door and he came slinking in on his belly. so funny. but he seems to be okay. H and tripp have been acting a little strange and i believe a cat loose in the hood is in heat and they want loose to visit her. they don't realize they can only shoot blanks since they are both fixed. i have been seeing a tiny young gray cat running around but i have almost quit feeding cats out side since my little guy that lived in the yard disappeared. i don't want to start having a bunch of cats around here again. later kiddo.. jeanne

Sounds like you've got nice neighbors, helping you tame your jungle. Sheesh, it's taken me so long to reply, the stuff has probably grown back by now! I've been helping one of my neighbors with some word processing, she's got a big document she wrote for school and they're real picky about margins and page numbers and other stuff. (The rules are more than 7 pages long!) It would have taken her ages to deal with it alone, so I did most of it and we've been getting together to go over it line by line -- and there goes a bunch of my evenings. But it's kind of fun to use my old skills and it keeps me from getting rusty, so I'm getting something out of it too. The tomatoes continue to ripen, but they've all suddenly developed yellow spots on the leaves. I'm hoping it's my black thumb kicking later than usual and just too much/too little water or something, not some nasty infection. Ah well, they aren't wilting, and normally they'd all die anyway in a few weeks when we have our first frost, so I'm not going to worry about it. I think Miami is going to start the new season the first week in October -- bummer that they're waiting so late, but maybe it means fewer repeats during the winter? I hope they lay off the "nemesis" garbage, I like the show better when there's just a different crime every week instead of some overdramatic villain barging in all the time. The other CSIs seem to start around September 23. The good news for me is, the weather will be getting chilly right around then, so I'll be ready to watch some sizzlin' hot guys! LOL at H's silly little tricks! You don't want to have a bunch of kitties hanging around? Man, you must be really sore from all that weeding! Careful, we'll have to start calling you something else!

My buddy with the giant document will be handing it in in December and is planning to celebrate by going to Las Vegas in January -- do you or Shelly & Jake have any recommendations of things she and her hubby should see, that most tourists wouldn't know about? Good thing Shelly & Jake have retired, or I'd be tempted to ask where they were working so my friends could drop by and say hello. We had a hail storm last night and got your classic "hail stones the size of golf balls," which was rather alarming and very noisy -- they were going BANG!!! on everyone's air conditioners and it was quite a percussion concert. The tomatoes have a few bent branches but are being quite stoic about their terrifying experience. It was a rough day for them, they've suddenly developed a Blight (yellow spots on the leaves) and I'd taken off all the affected branches -- they're no longer bushy, that's for sure. The Queen is still on her throne, but she's looking like a supermodel now. Looks like my hopes of tomatoes in February won't come true, the blight is fast and pretty ferocious. But I have other greenery to put under the fluorescent lights, and I'm sure someone will be marketing "get a start on the growing season!" seeds for starting indoors and planting next spring, any day now. Hope you haven't been getting hurricanes or other annoyances. Hey, have you tried any Portabellas yet?

Season Opener for CSI:Miami tonight! Looks like it's going to be pretty silly, with everyone in mortal danger according to the ads. I'm so pooped, I've set my DVD to record it just in case I fall asleep. But I am looking forward to watching it, even though I'll probably enjoy it more as a parody than a drama. Either way, H is yummy! (I heard someone say that.... )

hey girl, i have been real sick and miserible this last month and a half. i got some kind of itis in my tummy and intestions. they took me off milk products. today i added cheese back today. man that piece of mushroom and cz pizza i got for lunch was wonderful. the yard still looks good but i haven't been able to do much out there.
then something happened and my vision went insane. i went to my eye dude who is a surgert. he said by next year i will need cateract surgery. but not yet. no diabetes problems or glicoma. then he said to get rid of my glasses as they are horrible on my eyes.duh as if i didn't know that. so kammy the lady that did some of my tests said go to drug store and try on the reading glasses to use until i can get my regular glasses. so this morning i went over and got a pair. lordy i can see so much better. not great but alot better.
i couldn't beleave they killed off jessie. but since eric is back i guess they don't need him now. the show was okay just glad they are back. i also like the show "the event" on monday nights. it reminds me of early xfiles.
it has been so cool lately. i love when it is 60 degrees. i like to lay on my lounge chair that lives in the back yard early in the morning.
my baby h is laying on the desk beside me. so sweet.
i saw the boys 3 weeks ago we rode over to titusville, near cocoa beach and had fried shrimp and fish at a place i never had the nerve to go in alone. it looks rough but appears it isn't. we rode all over in the bentley along the river. along the beach and we had Diamond the pup with us. he stayed in a kids playpen while we ate. i brought food home and ate on it for 4 days. since my tummy was sick i couldn't eat much at time. Diamond had a ball, everyone was petting him and feeding stuff to him. the boys called ahead and they said bring him. i wanted D to see the beach but it was so dark because of the lights out because of the baby turtles. so i have to take him back during the day. i haven't heard from the boys since. i left a message for them to call me after i read your other message about neighbors going to vegas. i don't have a clue where they are but the housekeeper said they are gone again. she is so funny. she said "you know as good as i do they'll come around or call when they are good and ready." when i do hear from them i may suggest that they call her more often as she worries.
i never got the tomatoes planted i wanted to get. so sick, nothing tasted good, smelled good or anything else. i still over ate though and just lost a little weight about 190 lbs and already gained some back. darn it... well gotta go yak at ya later i'l try to get back on line sooner. loves H, so yummy lol jeanne

Sounds like you've had a rotten week, alright. Hope things have been better since you last posted! Man, there's nothing like tummy trouble to make your whole day seem sour. While you're waiting for things to get better, have you tried ginger tea? Just get some ginger root, chop up about an inch of it, put it in the tea pot and add hot water and let it sit a few minutes. It seems to clear my sinuses, too, although I don't know if that's normal or just me. Either way, it's pretty tasty -- spicy and light. Sorry it took me so long to log in. I've had a stressful week at work and came home every night cranky and too pooped to post, but that should get better now. Had a Little Chat today with a guy I supervise -- the kind of chat -- and I've been dreading it, because the guy throws tantrums like a five year old even though he's in his mid-30s, and Does Not React Well To Constructive Criticism. But I think I finally got through to him, by appealing to his ego. His most recent mistake was misspelling the name of the organization in huge letters at the top of some publicity he e-mailed out without letting me or anyone else check it first despite explict orders to LET ME SEE IT BEFORE IT GOES OUT -- and this is the second time he's done that. Made a typo in our name, not just sending it out unauthorized. So I said, "you do realize that everyone who received that e-mail is laughing at you? Hey, this guy can't even spell their own name!" And told him I can't stand there watching over his shoulder every minute, so it's up to him whether he'd rather spend a few seconds running the spell checker or look like an incompetent fool. He visibly considered which option he preferred. He had to think about which option he preferred. Glad that's done. On more pleasant subjects, my tomato plants seem to like the indoors -- I've had more ripe tomatoes since I brought them inside than I did all summer! And about 20 green 'uns coming up! At this rate, I might start seeds for next summer and never put the plants out on the patio. I'm also in Knitting Mode, I work on sweaters while I'm riding the bus to and from work. Although when they get too big to take on the bus, I have to finish them at home, so I've got three sweaters partly done. I'm hoping to have time this weekend to finish one of them at least. And just in time, we're getting into sweater weather here -- 40s in the morning, 60s on the way home, and they haven't turned off the A/C yet at work. I didn't get excited about the Miami season opener either, and I wish they hadn't killed Jake off. I think you're right that they wanted to clear the path for an Eric/Calleigh reunion, and decided to get rid of him. Let's hope the actor has a good gig coming up, and that was another reason -- he's darn charming! The whole episode seemed written to appeal to fans who like to wallow in emotion, and to hell with plot or character or anything else. I mean, they're pretty sure that Perps have put gas canisters in a place and they don't use gloves to open the door -- YO! GUYS! YOU'RE PUTTING YOUR HANDS ALL OVER PERP FINGERPRINTS! And that scene with Oscar talking to Jake while he cleaned Jake's face was very touching, but YO! OSCAR! THEY HAVEN'T FINISHED PROCESSING HIM! YOU'RE WIPING OFF EVIDENCE! Ah, well, let's hope they've gotten that out of their system and get back in touch with CSI reality for the rest of the season. Either way, H does look good..... That's all the news from here Up North -- I do lead a boring life. Thank you for asking Shelly and Jake about LV for me and my friend, by the way! My friend is totally focused now on fretting about getting her dissertation DONE, and her Approval Committee isn't getting back to her with comments, and deadlines are looming, so she won't be ready to hear their advice for a few weeks anyway. If I told her tomorrow that the boys had decided to fly her and her hubby out their for free and introduce them personally to every important person in Vegas, she'd smile and vaguely say "oh, how nice..." and then start reciting the deadlines she has to meet. And not remember a word I'd said. So as long as the boys get back by early December, any advice they have will be in plenty of time. Hope your eyes and tummy are doing better, and the cats and dog are happy, and your life is going a bit smoother. Ooo, another Miami in just a few days!

wow i missed work tuesday because something happened and i couldn't hardly see when i got up. i was so scared. i called jessie at work and was crying . i saw the eye dr and she said she thinks it may be because my blood sugar is bouncing around. high, then crashing. it got a little better by 10 ish. i went to the eye dr and my glasses will be ready nov 5. i can't wait because everyone at work has been helping me read stuff when it's written too small. she said i shouldn't even be driving. i have to be very careful because there isn't decent bus service between here and work. you are lucky. but maybe not in the winter.
it is supposed to cool off and it was 92 degrees yesterday and 88 today. should be in the low 60's tonight and man i love it then i won't have to run the air conditioning. i can't stand the heat.
i missed csim last week cause i couldn't stay awake..yuck...
oh by the by i am on a diet. not losing much but salad greens and chopped meat (either chicken breast cooked in the fake george forman grill or sliced turkey lunch meat.) that is if i get it before the cats and dog do. i have been doing good cause there is tons of candy and donuts laying around our office while they are all on diets and sneaking junk. lol i will be careful as i want my sugar to calm down.
tuesday i also got my flu shot and had my labs done. i go back to dr rego this next tuesday. i will be able to tell if the sugar is what is messing up my vision. god its horrible. i'm still a wreck. i also cut down on my pain pills. i'm afraid i was getting hooked on them again so i have only had 2 pills since monday. usually i take 2 or 3 a day. i just take the headaches. they give up and go away after a while.
ty has caused me a lot of heartache this past 3 weeks. the left leg that was hurt so bad in the accident about 12 years ago when i met him started getting infected and he ignored it for a couple weeks and got so bad he had to go in the hospital on friday 2 weeks ago until the next tuesday. they won't let him go back to work until december 1. of course he has no savings. but he may be able to collect short time disability. his mother and her girlfriend is paying 1/2 of ty's rent for next month. then mom is going to buy ty some groceries this week. i haven't told him but i will help some of the groceries. i just wish he would lose some weight. he is about 350 lbs. i don't want him to die. james is trying to lose weight also. we plan to join the ymca. only james and i, mine will be free as it is a benefit of wellcare medicare hmo.
i haven't heard from the boys yet. at least he told his house keeper that they are in austria of all places. she said they have been hiking all over the place.
thank goodness my tummy is better. at least something is better.
i love these animals more every day. when i go to bed early cause i'm not taking drugs they crawl up and hug up to me. diamond will too if i get him up on the bed, he can get down on his own but not up..
well i guess i had better get busy as i want to get the living room and den swept and then if i have the energy i want to mop tomorrow. later kiddo. love ya jeanne

i went to see dr rego yesterday. we were right and the blood sugar was bouncing all over. when i had my labs done my sugar was 196 and the a1c ratio was 7.8. with diabetes as long as it is below 7 everyone is happy. about 2 years ago it was 6.4. i was real excited. that was when i was lighter. so i am on my way again. today i was 194.2 lbs. so i am trying to stay on my diet. i am eating cherrios and a little milk for breakfast. an orange or apple for snack and either a 200 cal can of soup or a salad with tomatoes and sometimes a piece of meat. for supper usually grilled meat in my fake george forman grill thingy and a salad. i am so full now. had a grilled thin pork chop sandwich and later a small salad if i get hungry again. i shouldn't though.
dr rego said no more coffee or soda even coke 0 which is what i usually drink. also no salt or as low as i can.
i can't wait until i get the new glasses. seeing is horrible.. well now that i have whined enough i guess i am going to bed. lordy 7pm and i want to go to bed..
oh hey tomorrow night the low is supposed to be in the 40's it will be wonderful. i will crack all my windows but not much or baby h will knock out the screen and run off.
so cool i found H under some bushes neiked the other morning. ty said to tell folks on line and see if anyone wonders..lol.. that was the night baby h spent the whole night outside and i didn't even know he was out.. later kiddo....jeanne
