Wow I'm defiently spoiling you with all these updates. But anyway this chapter was written by Kells since she thought of the idea. Oh and FYI this is the Friday after the party... If anything seems confusing just let me know and I'll clear it up for you! Enjoy!!
The gang sat at the normal lunch tables taking in the day. They could not believe that they were doing this. It was the biggest pep rally of the year, and all the sports teams were doing things like cheers and games. But it had been cancelled at the snap of someone’s fingers who believed that the high school would be better off listening to the same speaker that they always listened to. Some college professor. He always talked about careers. “This is annoying. I don’t have to choose now what I want to do,” Niki protested. “I know! I just want to strangle this guy,” Kelly answered. “You two don’t do anything stupid,” Sarry warned. They rolled their eyes. “Come on, them?” Caitie and Lauren laughed. “Well, we have to go,” Greg told them. “Eww, no one asked you,” Jake was on Kelly and Niki’s side. Sierra rolled her eyes at him. “Bad boy,” Sierra told him, winking. “Ignore this one.” “Bad boy?” Niki and Kelly looked at each other, laughing. “Man, I don’t want to know,” Adri giggled. “Hey, Archie, what’s this guy about?” Lilly asked, grinning cutely at him. “He just goes on and on about careers.” “Eww, I’m not going to sit through this another year,” Niki proclaimed. “Niki, don’t do anything stupid,” Nick warned. Allie agreed. “Nik Nak, just don’t do this, promise?” Sarry pleaded. “Nah, this isn’t fair for us to have to miss the biggest pep rally of the year,” Niki raised her voice so others around her could hear. Several ‘yeahs’ came in reply. She took this as inspiration and leapt up onto the table quickly. “Why should we have to listen to the same boring guy year after year?” Niki yelled. “No!” Kelly joined her up on the table. Sarry gave Nick an ‘I told you so’ look. “I don’t want to have to choose now what I want to do for forever! I have the rest of my life for that!” Niki shouted. “So I say we skip!” Kelly thrust her fist triumphantly in the air. “Kells, get down from there,” Hawkes was now joining in on the pleading. “You’re going to get in so much trouble.” “No!” some upper classmen yelled in encouragement. Niki and Kelly got caught up in the moment. They shouldn’t have, but mob mentality took over. “So why must the teachers tell us everything we do?” Niki shouted out to everyone. “They can’t! We won’t let them!” Kelly had to admit it was pretty awesome to be listened to. Niki and her high fived each other. This was awesome! “So what’re we gonna do?” Niki yelled. “Skip!” they had the entire lunch room going. Then just as everything was going right everything went wrong. “The teachers are coming,” Niki and Kelly looked at each other with shocked looks. Oh crap! “Everyone out!” Mr. Taylor and Dr. Hammerback came in. They don’t know what Hammerback was going to do, but Taylor was the disciplinarian seeing as he was a Marine. “Except you two!” Mr. Taylor pointed to Niki and Kelly. Now they were really shocked. Soon the lunch room was silent. “Miss Higgins and Miss Stokes get off the tables.” They looked at each other and slid down into the chairs. This was going to be tons of fun. The two teachers sat down in front of them. Niki nudged Kelly who glared. “We just want to know why,” Mr. Taylor explained. “Well, it was unfair that we’ve been working so hard on our pep rally to just have it be replaced with the same speech we always listen to,” Kelly rebutted. “And didn’t the Greeks strike against the Romans,” Niki thought. “Nik Nak, shut up!” Kelly elbowed her. She then turned to the teachers. “She doesn’t mean that. She means that in the fifties there were sit-ins for equal rights.” “I see where the brains are here,” Mr. Taylor mumbled. Niki glared but knew she couldn’t do anything about this. “So how many detentions?” Niki was still glaring. Kelly couldn’t help but smile at Mr. Taylor. Dang, he looks good. Kelly Catherine Higgins, that’s a teacher! An incredibly fine teacher. Thank goodness no one can hear my thoughts. Especially Sheldon… “First, I’d like to say that this reminds me of a time when I was in college,” Hammerback started. Kelly and Niki rolled their eyes. “Sid, I think their detentions are punishment enough,” Mr. Taylor warned. They shot him a ‘thank you’ look. ……………………………………………………….. “So how many detentions did you two get?” Greg came out and asked. “Four,” Niki sighed. “But Kelly’s looking up because they’re all with Mr. Taylor.” Kelly glared. Niki laughed. “Sheldon jealous?” Greg laughed. “I hate you guys. I do not have a crush on Mr. Taylor.” “Deny it. Whatever!” Niki and Greg tag teamed. “That is so wrong!” Kelly was outraged. They shared looks. “And my drink was dosed at the party!” “Sure it is. Love has no age,” Caitie came into the conversation. “Well, I have to get to detention,” Kelly mumbled. “Dang it so do I,” Niki walked with her. “Kelly, get us out of detention.” “By doing what?” “Anything.” “Ewww, Niki, that’s gross. I would never ever…” “Here we go again,” Niki rolled her eyes. “Just flirt or something.” “He’s like old enough to be my dad.” “So what’s the problem?” “You know where my parents are.” “Oh, yeah. Sorry. But still flirt our way out of this.” “No.” …………………………………………………………………… “You two know why you’re here.” “Yeah, it’s completely lame,” Niki mumbled. “Not really. We deserved it,” Kelly told her. “Suck up!” “Am not!” “Are too!” “Am not!” “Shut up, you two!” Mr. Taylor finally told them. “Sorry, sir. Niki, remember Tony?” “You two, its detention. Silent!” “So did you have a date, Kells?” Niki whispered. “I did as a matter of fact.” “I don’t want to hear about you two’s love lives.” “Fine, but mine is actually interesting.” “Yeah, how many guys were you doing tonight?” Kelly laughed. Niki head slapped her. “Ouch.” “That is not what I meant by flirting to get out of this,” Niki shook her head. “Well, if it wasn’t for you starting a riot basically.” “If it’s any consolation, both of you started this,” Mr. Taylor got back to grading papers. A couple Cs and Ds but mostly As and Bs. “Did Niki get an F?” Kelly giggled. Niki glared. “No, surprisingly Miss Stokes got an A.” “Thank you very much,” Niki took a bow. “Whatever,” Kelly laughed. “You two, shush,” Mr. Taylor ordered. Kelly grinned like an oaf. “Kelly, stop enjoying this,” Niki head slapped her again. “I thought you wanted me to flirt our way out of this,” she hissed. “You two are aware that I can hear you,” Mr. Taylor was quite amused. “It’s Mac, right? May I call you Mac?” Niki asked. “No, you may not.”
“First off let me start with this, is Mac short for anything? Like MacDonald or Macimus? Or maybe even Mac abaca laca taka?”
“Wow Niki, just wow.” Kelly stared.
“No.” Mr. Taylor said from behind the quizzes, the last name did make him smile. “Anyway, Mac, so I mean wouldn’t you rather be doing something or someone else than be supervising this detention?” Niki got that look in her eyes. “Look, she means well. And I think we’ll just shut up instead of ticking you off, Mr. Taylor,” Kelly tried to smooth that over. “I think you could learn a bit from your friend, Miss Stokes,” he told her. “Yeah, you could,” Kelly grinned. “Yeah, if I want a huge crush on my teacher,” Niki mumbled. Kelly elbowed her. “Hmm?” “Nothing, she said nothing,” Kelly looked around the chemistry room. Very different than the biology room. “You’re a science teacher right?” “Very astute,” he didn’t look up from grading the quizzes, but they knew he was rolling his eyes. “Okay, so Dr. Grissom cannot explain Biology to save a life. I don’t get any of it?” “You’re grades say otherwise, Miss Higgins.” “I said flirt not get him to tutor you,” Niki hissed. “Wait, first of all, how do you know my grades?” “It’s all the science teachers talk about,” Mr. Taylor answered her sarcastically. “No, Dr. Grissom is recommending you for my class.” “Instead of Mr. Hamilton. Thank you! But still what’s the point of Biology?” “Oh my gosh, Kelly, shut up!” “No, well, I have a point. I forgot to bring my project in to work on. The DNA model project. I’m sure you’re aware that it’s a major part of my grade. Well, I was at a basketball tournament last week so I have half the time to work on it, and I don’t have a partner so I need to work on it.” “It was your choice to get on a table in lunch to start a riot.” “More of mob mentality. And you know we still missed that speech.” “Was it worth it?” He asked them. They looked at each other. “Yeah, Mr. Taylor, I don’t know what I want to do with life completely so why should I have to listen to this guy talk about choosing. I wanted the pep rally to be today because that’s who I am right now. I’m a Panther,” Niki explained. “Yeah, like when you were in high school did you know what you wanted to do, sir?” “No, but the fact is you have to listen to authority,” he answered. “You can’t fall into peer pressure.” Kelly and Niki pointed at each other. “Mr. Taylor, we weren’t following we were leading.” “Not the way to do it, Miss Higgins.” “You know you can call me Kelly, right? Not Miss Higgins.” “All a matter of perspective.”
“Well if you call us Miss Stokes and Miss Higgins then we should get to call you Mac.” Niki smiled.
“No.”
“It’s all a matter of perspective.” Niki smiled, throwing his words back at him. “Ugh, we still have an hour,” Niki nudged Kelly. “And three more detentions, ladies,” Mr. Taylor stacked his papers and put the cap on the pen. “It could be worse,” Kelly sighed. “Yes, it could be, but you have it in here with Mr. Taylor so you’re happy,” Niki didn’t care to lower her voice. Kelly turned red. “Funny, funny. So, Mr. Taylor, weren’t you a Marine,” Kelly didn’t care to make eye contact after Niki’s comment. “’Nam?” “I’m not that old. Desert Storm. Beirut.” “Oh, okay. Why’d you become a Marine? Was it because you hadn’t decided what to become?” Kelly pried. “Miss Higgins, it’s none of your business.” “Niki, what do you want to do?” Kelly asked, trying to get a conversation going. “I want to work Narco. Kells, what do you want to do?” “CSI. See we don’t need to go to that lecture,” Kelly sighed and sat on top of her desk. “I don’t get why I need to have detentions. I don’t think I’ll do that again, Mr. Taylor.” “You still have to be punished for what you did,” he finally looked up from his desk. “Sit down, Miss.” “You want us out of here as much as we want to go,” Niki got up on her desk now. “Have a hot date?” “Did you really just ask that?” Kelly looked at her friend. She still looked around the room. It was a lot cooler than the Biology room. “Mr. Taylor, why’d you become a teacher? Why not stay in the Marines?” “Could you two stop talking?” “So why did you interrupt that party? I mean, surely you had something to do,” Niki grinned. “Ignore her.” “You two really don’t understand the meaning of a silent detention, do you?” he asked. Wow, he looks really hot flustered, Kelly thought. “No, but you could give us something to do,” Kelly suggested. Niki head slapped her for that.
“Ouch, it’s better than nothing.” “You could clean the lab tables,” Mr. Taylor answered her. “They’re spotless already,” Niki complained. “Beggars can’t be choosers,” he told her.
“Ugh, can we at least talk a little?” “Quietly.” Someone had caught his eye, and he got up. “So what happened between you and Greg at the party?” Kelly whispered. “Well, we just kind of started kissing,” Niki explained. “Just randomly started? Or did it have anything to do with the fact that you guys are like not so secretly in love with each other?” “No, we were drunk.” “So was it a good kiss?” “Kind of,” Niki grinned. “I’ve had better.” “Of course you have,” Kelly rolled her eyes. “So what happened between you and Hawkes? Because you looked close and you woke up in bed together.” “First off, nothing happened! And secondly, he asked me to be his girlfriend,” Kelly couldn’t help but grin. “So you and Greg kiss, and it’s no big?” “No, not really.” “Ugh, he has like the biggest crush on you, and you finally kiss so it’s obviously a big deal!” Kelly was frustrated. “See, you have him on a string. He’s like a really nice guy. Come on, you have to admit that you liked the kiss too.” “It was okay. I mean he’s not the best kisser, but there was sort of something there.” “Maybe he’s the one,” Kelly laughed. “But you did say yes to Sheldon, right?” “Of course, and I have a date with him tonight.” “Awww, my favorite froshy’s growing up.” “Cute, but it’s a double date. With Sarry and Nick.” “Oh, well that’ll be interesting.” “Well, we don’t want to be too uncomfortable.” “Well, I told you that I knew the perfect guy for you.” “Thanks. Forgot to say that. So are you and Greg going to go on a date?” “I don’t know.” “Ugh, you’re hopeless, Niki.” “Actually, both of you are hopeless. I could hear you two down the hall,” Mr. Taylor sat at his desk. The rest of the time for that Friday detention went by relatively slow with Mr. Taylor having to tell them to be quiet very often. Finally, their hour and a half detention was up. Hawkes and Greg were waiting for them along with Lauren and Sarry. “Sheldon,” Kelly greeted him. Lauren and Sarry awed. “Kells, we have that double date tonight at that Italian restaurant,” Sarry reminded her. “I know. I’m not going to forget,” Kelly found her hand in Sheldon’s. It was pretty cool to date. Lauren, Greg, and Niki were joking about something. “So, we have three more detentions,” Niki rolled her eyes. “It’s so annoying.” “You two deserved it, you know?” Greg told her. “Aww, shut up!” Niki playfully pushed them. They all about split ways. “Kelly, you’re staying over at my place after your date right?” “Sure, should I get ready over there too?” she asked. “Yeah, see you in like an hour to get ready?” “Yup.” …………………………………………………………………………….. “These are good times,” Niki told Kelly as she got ready. “Wear the red blouse with your dark blue jeans.” “Good eye,” Kelly told her as she rushed into the bathroom to get ready. “I know.” “Okay, I’m ready,” she had tennis shoes on, like always, dark pants and a red button down blouse with her sleeves rolled up. “Aww, you’re growing up,” Niki took a snapshot of the two of them. “Funny, so what’s Nick talking to Hawkes about?” “Probably saying that you’re one of my good friends and if he hurts you he hurts me, and in that case he’s dead. That and that you have a huge appetite. So he has to have a bunch of money to fill you up,” Niki joked. “Again, funny. I just have to eat to keep my metabolism up for basketball, and I’m Italian. I like food.” “Yeah, yeah.” “You eat just as much as me!” Kelly laughed. “Yes, but I look ten times better than you.” “Way to totally make me feel good before my first date. So you think anyone else will be there?” “Nope, movie night here. Caitie, Sierra, Ryan, Lauren, Nick J, Greg, and Jerk, I mean Jake are going to be here.” “Okays, and I can text you whenever right?” “Yeah, unless it’s a good part of the movie.” “Thanks a bunch.” “What can I say, I’m just cool like that.” …………………………………………… “All right what are we watching?” Greg asked. He was happy that Nick wasn’t there to threaten him. “Umm, let’s see how ‘bout Indiana Jones?” Lauren wondered. “No, how ‘bout Star Wars?” Jake asked. “Fine,” everyone seemed to agree on that so Niki put the DVD in and they all settled on the couch. Caitie by Ryan. Lauren by her Nick. Sierra by Jake. And Niki and Greg were sort of pushed together. Allie walked in late and sat down on the ground by the bowl of popcorn. “What’d I miss?” she looked at everyone who seemed very comfortable. “Shh!” Caitie hushed her instantly. “So is everyone else on a date or something?” Allie asked. “Yeah! Shush!” Greg answered. “Which one is this?” “The third.” “OoOooO, I love this one!” “Shush!” ……………………………………………… “This is… uh… awkward,” Kelly mumbled to Hawkes. “Yeah, it kind of is.” “Hey, hands where I can see them,” Nick told them. “Fantastic, the cops are here,” Kelly rolled her eyes. “Come on, after we eat, how ‘bout we go see a movie or go bowling?” Sarry suggested. “No, to the movie, but bowling would be okay, I guess,” Nick relented. “Ugh, why not a movie?” Sarry wondered. “Because after today, Kelly is so much like Niki.” “They’re nothing alike,” Sarry took Nick’s hand. “She’s definitely different. She has only liked this one guy so let’s go and they can go by themselves.” “All right, but after dinner.” ……………………………………………………. “So how was the date?” Kelly felt bombarded. They really hadn’t cared to talk before lunch so here she was at the end of lunch, stuffing the rest down so she could get to class. “That’s attractive,” Niki laughed. Kelly gulped. “Thanks. It went well. Really awkward. I think it was worse since it was a double. I mean dinner was fun then we went bowling as a foursome. It was pretty awesome. Sarry and I dominated.” “That’s fun,” Caitie laughed. “Thanks,” Kelly rolled her eyes. “So what classes do you have before your detention with Mr. Taylor?” Lauren asked in a sing-song voice. The others started laughing. “Umm Biology and English,” Kelly looked at her schedule. “You don’t have it memorized?” Adri raised an eyebrow. “No, she’s just trying to hide her blush,” Katie told everyone. “I’m not blushing. I just don’t remember my schedule.” “Yeah, well remember Biology is Dr. Grissom, and English is Ms. Bonasera,” Niki answered. “Looks like Kelly has some competition in Ms. Bonasera,” Nick J came over. “Thank you. You know I could consider this hazing?” Kelly rolled her eyes. “Shoot, we’re all going to be late to class.” “And if you get one more tardy to class, you have a detention?” Caitie asked. “No, that’s Niki,” Kelly grinned. …………………………………………………………. “Psst, Greg!” Niki whispered at her lab partner. “What?!” he hissed back. “Mr. Taylor’s gonna get ticked at you if he hears you.” “I didn’t do my homework. Can I copy off yours?” “Fine,” he slid his paper nonchalantly over to her. “Miss Stokes, unless you want another detention I suggest you turn in your own homework, not Mr. Sanders’ here,” he warned. “Just checking answers, Mr. Taylor,” she grinned. Why the heck does Kelly have a crush on him of all teachers? “I think I can tell if it was your own work,” he took the paper up. She glared. She hated Chemistry. …………………………………………………………. “Huh, déjà vu,” Kelly walked into the Chemistry room. “This is going to get old fast.” “Sorry, I’m late, Mr. Taylor. I was finishing my homework,” Niki came in. “He’s not in here,” Kelly told her as she sat down at a table. “Then I’m skipping,” Niki turned toward the door. “You’re going to be in so much trouble if Mr. Taylor comes in.” “No, I won’t.” “Why?” “’Cause you’re going to cover for me,” Niki explained and walked out. Why do I cover for her since all she’s done is say things about me? And she put ice cubes in my sleeping bag too. But I don’t really want to get beat up. Kelly put her head down on the table and fell asleep. “Greggo,” Niki called to him. “Shouldn’t you be in detention?” Greg winced as she punched his arm. “I skipped. Let’s go see a movie,” she walked next to him. “Okay, but do I have to pay?” “Yeah!” Niki dragged him to the mall where there was a movie theater. “Yes, they’re playing some classics.” “Like what?” “The Dark Knight.” “That’s not a classic.” “But they’re playing it. And it will be a classic at some time,” she pushed him forward. “Two tickets please,” Greg pulled out his wallet. “The Dark Knight.” “Oh we need popcorn!” Niki told him. Soon after they got popcorn and sodas they sat in the theater, waiting for the movie. Kelly woke up quickly. “How messed up is that?” “Hmm?” She then realized where she was. Detention. With Mr. Taylor. Now that was messed up! And Niki had bailed. She was never going to live this down. “Umm nothing. Mr. Taylor, since Niki suddenly and very randomly came down with the flu,” which I’m going to kill her for bailing on me, “why do I have to stay? I mean it wasn’t exactly my idea to get on a table and start this.” “You joined her up there,” again looking at his papers, he answered her. “Yes, but that’s just mob mentality, and you yourself said that I was the brains of it.” “You do realize that that little fact is not going to help you.” “Okay, but, Mr. Taylor, I never do things like that.” “If you really want out of here, where’s Miss Stokes?” “I told you, she came down with the flu.” “So you’re going to cover for your friend even if you blame her?” “Not covering. You don’t know Niki. She gets sick all the time.” “Especially around my class.” “Mr. Taylor, I think you’re too strict in your class.” “I don’t really think you are in a position to be giving suggestions, Miss Higgins.” “Why do you do detentions? I mean shouldn’t Mr. Ecklie give them? He is the vice-principal.” “I do disciplinary actions too, Miss Higgins.” “But I mean I’m stuck here because I’m ‘dangerous’ and shouldn’t mingle with other people spreading my ‘rebellious’ ideas? Is that why?” she grinned widely. “No, you are being punished for almost starting a riot.” “Imagine that, eh? A freshman almost starting something. I mean, come on, give me some credit for that. And what if I said I was sick?” “With what?” “Stickittothemanneosis,” she giggled. “Cute,” he sighed looking at his students’ papers. “That equation’s wrong,” Kelly sighed, looking at the board. “I’m well aware of that. It’s balancing equations.”
“Can I do my Geometry homework?” “Do you always talk this much?” “Not when I do my homework,” Kelly also wanted to look at her phone. I bet Niki’s having tons of fun with Greg. And I’m stuck, trying to flirt my way out of this? There are so many things wrong with this. “Fine, you can do your Geometry homework,” Mr. Taylor finally relented mainly so she would shut up. “Thank you,” she dug into her bag, checking her phone quickly. Niki had sent one text saying: At the movie with Greg. Thanks for covering! Kelly glared at that message. But she got to work. She was going to get out of detention somehow. ……………………………………………………….. “So how was detention?” Niki laughed. Kelly glared. “I probably got into more trouble for covering for you.” “Did he believe you?” “Umm I don’t know. But he let me work on my homework. I think it was so I’d shut up,” Kelly answered putting her phone into her pocket. “And I think I’m going to get out of that fourth detention. He said if I would help him with papers today he’d let me out tomorrow. He also said you have to make up that detention.” “Yeah, whatever,” Niki rolled her eyes. “I’m going to the mall today with Greg. Just keep flirting with your teacher however iffy that is.” “He’s not my teacher. He’s yours.” “Yeah, yeah.” “Kells, how’s detention?” Sarry laughed. “Is everyone getting a huge kick out of this?” Kelly wondered. “And I’m getting out of it early, unlike Niki who’s gonna have like twenty if she keeps skipping.” “Nah, he won’t do anything,” Niki put her feet up on the lunch table. “Yeah, well when you have him again for Physics, you’ll have a suckish year,” Caitie told her.
“Nope I won’t, because I am a monster at Physics!” Niki smiled with great pride.
“How do you know that?” Sarry asked.
“I’ve been doing Nick’s Physic’s homework and stuff for the whole year. It’s so easy! I’ll just impress Mr. Taylor with my Physic’s knowledge and BAM we’ll be good.”
“Sure…” Kelly rolled her eyes. “And Kelly’ll be his favorite next year in Chemistry,” Lauren told her. “Nah, she’s a trouble maker,” Allie laughed. “Thanks guys,” Kelly stood up. “You guys want me to throw away any of your lunches? I’m going to the trash can.” “Sure, thanks,” they loaded her up with stuff. “Wowsers!” ………………………………………………… “Mr. Taylor, you said if I helped you today, I could get out of detention tomorrow?” Kelly was hopeful. “Niki still has the flu.” “Thought I saw her today in the hallway.” “Must’ve been me. We look alike from the back.” Niki owes me big time! Like way big time! I am going to want something big for my birthday or Christmas! “Mmhmm,” Mr. Taylor didn’t sound convinced. Kelly grinned. “Well, she’s a bit taller, and it could have also been I don’t know her twin?” “Mmhmm,” Mr. Taylor told her again. “Mac,” someone said from the doorway. “You can work on this, and I’ll think about getting you out of the next detention.” Kelly grinned. “Yes, sir.” She waited until he left the room and got her phone out. She sent something to Niki: Ha! Ha! Sucka! I am getting out tomorrow. And you owe me big time. She put her phone on silent, and she started working on the papers. She was alphabetizing them. Soon, Mr. Taylor had returned, and Kelly had finished. “All right, I’ll let you out of detention tomorrow. Tell Miss Stokes she has to be there or I’ll add more than what she missed.” “Okay, will do.”

Well it's been a pretty looooooooong time since I last updated this..hmmm. Well this chapter was written by Sarry cause she is just that uber amazing! And hopefully from now on I'll update slightly regularly! Enjoy!!
Niki didn't know why she felt so, well odd. It had been a few weeks since the party and it was still nagging at her. She didn't feel bad as such, more confused. She acted like she didn't really remember the kiss with Greg, but it was a very vivid memory. But so was where she ended up. Not that she regretted that either. She was young, unattached; no responsibility to anyone. So why did she feel so confused? It wasn't a state of mind that she enjoyed being in. The tug on her emotions was driving her mad, and people asking her if she was okay really wasn't helping matters at all. In fact it was just making her mad. She stormed up the hallway not catching anyone's eye. She knew if one more person asked if she was okay...
She got to her locker with no incident, she let out a sigh of relief. Catherine was stood a few lockers along staring out the window. Just the sight of her seemed to infuriate the already irritated Niki more. She threw her things in her locker and slammed the door. 'Deep breath, deep breath.' She repeated over and over in her head. She turned to walk to her next class, as she passed by Catherine, she couldn't help but look to see what she was staring at. It was that which pushed her right over the edge.
“Why are you always staring at my brother!” Niki yelled at the top of her lungs. People stopped to stare and the usually calm Catherine actually coloured; obviously not expecting the confrontation.
“I'm, I'm not. I was just....” Catherine never ever, ever justified herself but the sheer surprise of it all had thrown her off balance.
“He doesn't like you, doesn't want you. Get it? Or is that too advanced for that tiny brain of yours?!” Niki was right in the older girl's face, totally furious with no real reason.
There was quite a crowd gathering. People were staring. Niki suddenly became very aware of this and stepped away from Catherine. She looked around, then back at the object of her fury. Then she shrugged and walked away. As far as she was concerned what she had just done was deserved. Catherine was a letch. Maybe she felt a little bad for reaming her out in the hall, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Here's to hoping that everyone else left her alone for the rest of the day. Only one class to go!
…........................
Catherine, after recovering was mad. In fact furious. How dare Niki talk to her like that! She glared at the staring crowd until one by one they slowly slouched off. She sneered to herself. No one spoke to her like that and got away with it. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone. She searched the video files and found what she was looking for.
“Tomorrow is a brand new day Niki Stokes!” She sneered to the empty hallway, “You'll get yours.”
She headed off towards one of the computer suites. Blowing off a class wasn't anything new for Catherine, it was only Phys. Ed. anyway so no big deal. She found an empty room and switched on a PC. She connected to the internet and logged into her Facebook page. She paired her phone using the bluetooth system and uploaded the video onto her profile. Then she tagged both Niki and Flack, so that everyone would get a notification. She smiled evilly to herself.
“Pay back's a bitch” She said, then leant forwards and switched off the computer.
….............................
The next day Niki's spirits still hadn't lifted. She'd gone straight to her room and vegged out whilst listening to music right after school, before falling asleep. She walked to school alone deciding against catching the bus. As she approached the double doors leading into the building she noticed the stares and giggles. People she didn't even speak to seemed to be talking about her and she could've sworn she heard Flack's name mentioned. Maybe she was just being paranoid. She dragged her feet to home room, there was barely anyone there so she flopped down into her seat. From behind her she could hear the whispers and this time there was no mistake, she definitely heard the name Don Flack. If he'd been talking about what happened there would be hell to pay, and the mood she was in he'd better hope there was no projectiles in her reach. Regardless of the fact she told the others about the previous encounters with him while she was at the slumber party, she'd not told anyone about this time. Something didn't feel right and so at the moment she wanted to keep it to herself. She'd made this very clear to Flack and the rage inside her was slowly growing.
Trying to contain herself and to stay composed Niki pulled out her cell phone and sent a text.
'Who the hell hav u bin tellin? I no evry1 is talkin'
She waited for a reply. It wasn't long before her text tone beeped.
'it seems sum1 can't keep their mouth shut. I've bin hearin things all mornin. Way to go big mouth'
Niki was furious, how dare he call her names, she never told a soul. She replied.
'my house. Now'
She grabbed her bag and left the room, not even looking back at the gossipers behind her. She needed to get home and to sort this out now. She almost felt upset; she was angry, very angry. Upset was kind of a new emotion to her. Niki stormed up the hall ignoring the calls from her friends trying to get her to stop. If she'd stopped maybe she would have gotten the information she was seeking. But Niki being Niki and not in any sort of mood to listen to anyone disregarded their voices and left the school building behind her.
….....................................
Niki tapped her foot impatiently while she was waiting for him, he hadn't replied to her demanding text but she knew he'd show up. It wasn't long before the front door opened and a familiar voice called through. Without hesitation she stormed to the hall and grabbed Don's arm. She pulled him into the den before letting rip.
“Who have you told and why?! I thought we agreed to keep it to ourselves for a while?” Niki yelled.
He held his hand up, “Woah woah woah! I never told anyone! Anyway, you should be proud to have been there.” he gestured proudly at himself.
Niki's eyebrows shot up, “Are you kidding me?” she yelled, and without even thinking dumped the soda she was holding over his head.
They stared at each other, then just laughed. “Take them off and stick them in the dryer.” She told him, pointing at his clothes. “Or you could stand out in the rain first to rinse the soda off!” Niki giggled. Flack shook his head and headed to the kitchen to dry his clothes.
Her mood felt a little lighter but she was still confused as to how the whole school knew about what had happened. She wasn't particularly ashamed of herself she just wasn't sure in her head what was going on. While she was stood pondering over the situation the doorbell chimed. She frowned at her thought process being interrupted but headed to the door anyway. She opened it up to find a very wet, totally sad looking Greg stood on her doorstep.
“Greg?” She exclaimed, totally surprised to see him standing there.
There was no awkward silence, or pause, “Did the kiss even mean anything to you? At all?”
Niki was taken aback, not only was Greg never this forward, but she was used to being the aggressor in all situations. Also he'd just asked her the question which she really didn't know the answer to. Actually it was the question that was weighing on her mind and completely confusing her. She stuttered, for once completely lost for words. Totally unable to answer the enquiry that had just been fired at her.
Just as she opened her mouth to relay her carefully crafted answer Flack appeared behind her in his boxer shorts, “Niki I need help!”
“Well I think that answers my question.” Greg snapped.
“It's so not what it looks like Greg.” Niki told him, unsure as to why she was explaining herself.
“Sure it's not. I bet it's nothing like what happened between you two at the party.”
Niki turned to Flack and gave him the death stare again. Even though she had started to believe it wasn't him that had spilled the beans she was now unsure again. If he hadn't told, who did? She never said a word to anyone. In reply Flack shrugged; he was as confused as Niki was. She turned back to Greg just in time to see a single tear roll down his face. Something in her chest tugged, if she had a heart she woulda thought it was that.
“Look, Greg, come in. It's raining.” She tried to pretend that she hadn't noticed the crying.
“Come in?” Flack exclaimed, only to receive a swift slap from Niki. It stung as he was stood there only in his underwear.
“Yes, come in.” She moved her gaze from Flack back towards Greg. He looked so cute and vunerable stood there dripping wet. She shook her head trying her hardest to get the thought out of her head. She'd chosen Don, well, she thought she had. Acting like she didn't know what he was talking about she asked, “What do you mean? You know, about the party.”
Greg took hold of her wrist and led her to the computer room. Her PC was already turned on. He loaded up her internet browser. Without even looking back at Niki and Flack he logged into his facebook and clicked the link to his notifications. Then he chose the right one which loaded up the posted video. Niki's jaw almost hit the floor.
“Weeeee! Look at me gooooo!” Flack yelled excitedly.
Niki turned around and punched him, hard. He looked hurt and rubbed his arm. It had the desired effect though as he shut up. Niki looked closer, then she saw who posted it. “Catherine!” She snarled, “I should have known.” She was seething and clenching her fists like she was ready to punch something or someone. Then a voice interrupted her deadly thoughts.
“Niki.”
She turned to look at Greg, it was him who had softly spoken her name.
“So is it me or him?” He asked sadly, gesturing to the semi naked Don. “Was the kiss for real, or was that?” He asked pointing calmly at the video that was still running. She looked at Greg, then Don. The confusion apparent in her eyes.
“Oh come on Nik, we know who you are gonna choose. All he gave you was a kiss.” Then Flack proudly pointed to the video, “I gave you that!”
Greg clicked the stop button, he hadn't realised that the video was still running. None of them really needed it to be playing in the background of this particular conversation.
“Greg, I....” Niki's voice caught in her throat. She was never stuck for words. Never indecisive. She always knew what she wanted, right now was the only time in her life that she could remember when she had ever been unsure. Greg hung his head. “I'm sorry. But it's him. I choose him.” She flicked her head towards the half dressed Don Flack.
Greg didn't utter a word, not one sound. He stood up, nodded towards Don and headed for the door.
“Greg, it's raining too hard, wait!” Niki yelled after him. He shrugged in reply and left.
Flack put his hand on Niki's shoulder. “I knew you'd choose me!” He was acting so smugly.
“Just shut up and put some clothes on!” She replied crossly.
…...................................
Greg dragged his feet as he started the journey home. His head hung low, mainly because of the heavy rain that was pounding on him, but also so the tears could flow freely. He didn't want anyone to see, the rain was a great disguise. His gait was slow as he walked towards his home, he didn't see Adri come out of the shop, her umbrella low against the rain. He walked right into her and they both stumbled.
She looked closely at him, “You okay?” she asked noticing his tears, but trying to act like they weren't obvious.
Greg Shrugged, “Not really.” barely containing the sobs that were trying to escape.
Adri took hold of his hand, “I didn't really like Flack that much anyway.” She looked sad too.
“You saw the video?” Greg asked, knowing that Adri would be affected too. She nodded.
She rubbed his shoulder, “It'll be okay.” she told him in a soothing voice.
He looked into her eyes, “Right.” he said, “Join me for a soda?”
“Sure.” Adri replied, holding her umbrella out to shield him from the rain. “We can keep each other company.”
Awwwww so sad. Hope you enjoyed! And I hope you guys are waiting for the next chapter!
