Have all you HipHuggers recovered from your collective swoon yet? I enjoyed the episode, but the writers still seem to be concentrating on how things look rather than if things make sense, or so it seems to me. I don't mind that Calleigh's hair and makeup stayed pristine through the everything, or that the respirator tube was basically loose in her mouth instead of sealed and taped in place, or that the respirator was magically silent instead of chugging away in the background. After all, it is TV. ;D I'd even be willing to overlook the spatter on the "operating room" curtains, but man! Was someone taking a shower in the stuff? It's when they mess with plot that it bugs me. Calleigh's in critical condition from smoke inhalation, but Ryan's chasing a suspect and barely breathing hard afterwards? Can anyone explain to me why the perp shot the doc? Was it was pure cussedness and he was just having a temper tantrum? Wouldn't it have made more sense to keep the doc alive and pressure him into giving some followup treatment? Okay, enough whining. :pillowfight: I laughed at the drug dealer when he took time to close the kitchen cabinets before he blew the place up. I loved seeing Alexx again (wonder if the characters freaked a little at seeing her taking care of Calleigh, when they're used to it being dead bodies she cares for that same way?)! The guy who played the assistant also plays JJ's fiance and baby daddy on Criminal Minds, which added an interesting twist for me. And I'm really, really hoping that's the last we see of the Wretched Shirt on Horatio -- maybe it was convenient for the wardrobe department, because of when they filmed this episode in the shooting schedule?

The perp probably shot the doc because he was mad that he was dying. And Ryan wasn't in the attic where most of the smoke was as long as Calleigh. She's also a lot smaller than him and probably has a smaller lung capacity or maybe she has asthama or something. Thats what I figured anyway. And I think he did cough once or twice in the episode.
I really liked this eppy though. It reminded me of something from an earlier season. And I love how instead of having the drug dealer be the killer in typical Miami fashion the donor was the killer because he was pissed of that he was dying. And I liked how Calleigh and Ryan were interacting and talking about stuff that wasn't about the case. At first I thought I was on the wrong channel or something but then I realised that the writers actually realised that human beings talk about stuff BESIDES work.
The whole scene with Calleigh in the ER was a little deja vu and I was a little disapointed that the writers didn't mention anything about how two years ago it had been Eric in Calleigh's place. And I loved how Eric left his watch on her wrist so she'd know that he'd been there. All the ECness was very cute and well written. And my only major problem with the episode was Eric's shit. It looks like something my Grandma owns.

Calleigh really could have been more susceptible to the smoke than Ryan ,or she could have had a pre-exiting condition such as asthma. They probably both should have been checked out before heading back to work, but this is TV. Mirium, you are right about the tube is normally taped or has an elastic band to keep it in place. I would have liked to see the team show some concern for Calleigh,I don't think anyone even asked about her condition. I also wanted some team interaction with Alexx, that would have been great to see. I hope the bloody surgical staple that pierced Ryan's hand isn't a cause for problems later. I did like the banter between Calleigh and Ryan at the start of the program. I'm not a C/E shipper so my question is what now? I already feel that some of the Miami's stories revolved way too much around this "romance".The characters even act out of character for the sake of "the romance".What's next?

I agree with the team interaction thing. Horatio and Eric were the only ones who talked to Alexx, not counting Calleigh because she was out for most of it. Would have been nice to see Ryan (her baby at the lab) talking to her, or even Natalia or Frank. Or you know, visiting Calleigh. At first when Tara told Ryan about the staples, me and my mom were both like . But then I realized that Ryan having problems because of the staple (who knows what that guy could have wrong with him, ew) wouldn't happen because the episode would need to be longer and already had the whole Calleigh thing. I doubt it actually will cause problems, but you never know. He was lucky with that nail in the eye... The beginning scene with Calleigh and Ryan was good, but like GregRox implied it was kinda weird too! Really not used to seeing any of the team talk to each other about normal everyday things. (I always thought Ryan was a horrible driver, or at least a fast driver, since Under the Influence, but apparently he doesn't like Cal's driving either. ) As for the EC stuff, I really liked it. I don't think they're out of character, and even though this'll probably sound stupid, aren't even real people different when they're in love? ;D I didn't even think it was too over the top. I mean Eric put his watch on her, and left. When she woke up he was there and told her what she heard was real, then held her hand and sat there. Wasn't too overbearing at least in my opinion, but then again I do ship EC. Ahaha and I have to say, Ryan, DAMN. I don't think I need to elaborate.

This example is kind of what I was talking about as far as characters acting out of character. I wasn't necessarily just speaking of Calleigh and Eric. That scene probably seemed weird because we don't see the team talk to each other about every day things. It was for the sake of E/C. Problems with the staple didn't need to become apparent with this episode, but later. It could take a few days before signs of infection show, but he probably won't have problems. You are right about Ryan,he looked hot in the jeans and tee shirt and the dress shirt and tie.

I just watched it an hour ago. Well, where to begin.
Procedural errors? Sheesh! That Hummer goes speeding through a residential neighborhood--no lights, no siren. Then when the fire starts, no radio call for backup. And both of them are upright in that smoke--nobody's crouched low or crawling. And who else but Calleigh can run in those 3" stilettos? And sorry, but Calleigh should've gotten out of there and not put herself and Ryan in danger.
I never realized how much I missed Alexx until now. Tara's, eh, okay, but Alexx was the MOM that team needed! She brought a certain something to the older epis. I loved watching her hug Horatio in the end.
E/C fans must be needing a cold shower by now. HEY! ERIC AND CALLEIGH! EITHER PEE OR GET OFF THE POT!! HOW MANY SEASONS HAS IT BEEN NOW?? RICK STETLER'S NOT BREATHING DOWN YOUR NECK THIS SEASON, SO GO AHEAD AND DATE!! OR SOMETHING!! YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER!! Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. I have no opinion of the E/C ship either way, but imho, they've been dragging this thing on WAAAAAY too long.
I wonder whether wardrobe was on a union-mandated lunch break at the opening scene. Seems like all through S7, Ryan has been getting gussied up. This time he ran in there with a pleather jacket over an undershirt. But he found the time to get that shirt and tie on later, even with Calleigh having to go to the hospital.
Oh, and Ryan should've gotten an AIDS test when he realized he'd cut himself on a used surgical staple.
I do remember more people being there when Delko was shot in the head and barely hanging on. Also, in "Man Down", I think people realized more the gravity of the situation rather than treating Calleigh's critical status as something to be worked around. Call me cynical, but I think their cameraderie is gone.
And yeah, this would've been a great time for old Stetlerpants to come in and rattle cages about why they didn't call for backup or why Calleigh put herself and Ryan in danger. Next thing you know, Rick and H could have another pi**ing contest, just like in the good old days.
(I miss Rick Stetler and his mole! WAAAAAAAAH!) Aw come on, you knew that was coming!
Thanks. I'm done nitpicking.
It was great to see Alexx hug Horatio.

I really don't think Calleigh has any lung problems...she was running at the beginning of one of the previous episodes. I do think she was more susceptible since smoke rises and she was in the attic longer than Ryan just breathing it all in. Plus, she was breathing deeper due to the fact that she was hauling a full grown dead weight man to the hole to hand to Ryan I wish that the rest of the team would have had a little interaction with Alexx too. And, why didn't everyone come to see Calleigh...H and Eric seemed to be the only ones concerned Overall, I liked the plot and the way they figured it out. I also liked the characters discussing things from their lives...that used to happen alot...it has fizzled over the years...hope they do that alot more in the future. It makes them seem more human to have issues outside of the workplace.

It makes them seem more human to have issues outside of the workplace. More than likely,Calleigh did have problems because of the extra exertion, but the fact that she was seen running in an earlier episode does not rule out a pre-existing condition.I've known plenty of athletic people(my brother included) who have had adult onset lung problems, seemingly out of the blue. The biggest disappointment with this episode for me was the lack of team again. Not only did the team not see Calleigh in the hospital, they didn't even ask about her.We can assume they care, but why not show it. It really would have been nice for several more team members to interact with Alexx.Ryan was kind of close with Alexx, it would have been nice if they could have managed a scene together.

I thought Alexx was closer to Ryan and Horatio than anyone...and she did talk to Horatio about how things had been going...but I agree Denise...she and Ryan should have had some sort of interaction...even if it was just a hug, "how are you", "I've missed you"...that sort of thing. I do hope she comes back in future episodes...it was wonderful how they did her character in this episode...lets hope the reviews are high enough for them to talk her into coming back on a recurring basis

Wasn't Eric in the hospital a lot longer than Calleigh was? I mean, it would be a lot more reasonable for the whole team to be able to visit over a period of days/weeks than hours/days. I vaguely remember some line about how they had to get Calleigh's lung function back to normal within X hours or she'd be a goner. Let's hope that Ryan joshing Calleigh at the start of the show was a trend -- they put it in for E/C purposes, but will start putting in more general friendly conversations! Ryan might have gotten tested for AIDs off camera, so to speak -- and maybe we'll see him fretting about it later. The show does have a history of planting seeds of future problems, sometimes the problems show up later, sometimes they mysteriously evaporate..
